HST Baby Quilt

We have another baby coming in the family, and I puzzled for quite a while as to what to make. I wandered into a LQS and saw the cutest little fabrics in the fat quarter sale bin. They have skunks! Any fabric that is cute and that has skunks on it is aces in my book!

I matched the print with some solids, some of which are also new additions to the stash.

Everything else is a Moda Bella solid, with one *exception*. They are from clockwise, Amelia Apricot, Parchment, Celery, Soft Yellow (? I think), Betty's Teal, *American Made Brand* Periwinkle, Little Boy Blue, and Breeze.

I decided, as usual, to make this up as I go. So I made up a bunch of HST's. There are as many ways to make HST's as there are ways to arrange them! I decided to use my trusty ruler from Fons & Porter.

That's right, I used a pencil. This is straight up old school here.

And I pinned. I figure that the amount of time it takes me to pin is less than I would spend constantly checking the alignments as I chain pieced. Off I went...

..and had a few trimmings to show for it. (Always with HST's, right!)

The big reveal will have to wait. The HST's are not the end of things though. I plan on getting my "Podunk" on, and doing some... applique. Dum dum dummmmm. Lee Anne makes it look so darn easy, and I need it for this quilt. So. Stay tuned. It could get real crazy up in here.

Sunday Stash!

Whew! It's been a while since I posted, but I had a great excuse. My parents came to visit for a week, and we had a great time. Except for the part where my little terrier bit their little terrier in a frenzy of excitement while barking at the neighbors dog, all was well. The good news is their Carin Terrier is back chasing lizards and killing squirrels like nothing ever happened. Oh yeah, she's a wee little cold blooded squirrel killer.

I shouldn't have. But I did!!!!

Naturally, with very little hands on fabric play happening, and an internet connection, a girl simply has to go fabric shopping. And shop I did, here. This was my first order, and I.am.smitten. Not only are the fabrics soooo pretty, my order arrived with a little caramel tucked in. Mmm, mmm, goodness all around.

 If I said I had a thing for strawberry or cherry fabric it would be a lie. I love a good strawberry or cherry print. So of course I swooped up a bundle of strawberry goodness from Bonnie and Camille's latest, Hello Darling. And they are, in fact, darling.

And, rather on a whim, I decided on a jelly roll from oneCanoetwo, called Tucker Prairie. It is gorgeous! Navy, lilac, green, teal and corals - I just want to open the roll, throw it on the bed and roll around in it. I have saved (er, hoarded) a jelly roll of Kate Spain's Good Fortune. And they belong together. At least, that's my plan of the moment. Subject to change ;)

Berrylicious Bundle! Sunday Stash!

Being that I was on the other side of town Friday, I decided to pop in to one of our LQS'. So happy I did - I found the perfect backing fabric for birds and bees baby. Mom's favorite color is purple, dad is a chef, they bake together in their spare time... voila! Cupcake fabric! It's from Robert Kaufman's "All My Heart" line. It's got a touch of purple, once I saw it, I knew it was perfect.

As I walked around the shop, I kept being drawn back to a solid coral color. My stash is sorely lacking in solids, and I decided it must come home with me. These 6 berry beauties are from Northcott. Northcott solids are new to me, but I have only heard positive reviews. They feel lovely and the LQS had dozens of beautiful colors to choose from. I thought that they looked like yummy berry sorbets. This is my berrylicious bundle!

Sunday Stash, A Flimsy, A Rant

Birds and Bees Baby

The Birds and Bees Baby flimsy is all done! To say I'm pleased with how it turned out would be an understatement. It's so charming in it's pretty pink sugar-y sweetness, and the green helps it from reaching sugar coma stage. :) Pink and green are one of my all.time.favorite. color combos.
In case you're wondering if I jumped the gun, choosing pink, yep, I sure did. But, mom thinks it's a girl, and I just have a vibe that it is, too. I've set it aside for quilting for when I get my Bernina back from service.
Meanwhile, I've had this jelly roll and yardage kicking around in the stash. I decided to just make something already. The collection is called Palazzo by Greta Lynn for Benartex. The fabric has a great feel to it.

Earmarked for the hubs

I had envisioned a quilt from Jelly Roll Quilts, but when I showed the pattern to Mr. Fussy Pants (aka the hubs) he said it's too busy. Fine. Be that way. Now I'm leaning towards a rail fence on point or some kind of linear stripe-y design. Something easy to piece 'cause that's all I'm in the mood for on the back up machine.
And, off topic, but I'm going to rant a bit here. Last night while coming home from graveyard shift, our son was rear-ended by a drunk driver. He's OK, and his car is damaged but drivable.  He was stopped at a red, and she hit the truck behind him doing 45mph, and the truck then hit him. And, if you're like me, and already livid at this imbecile's complete and utter stupidity, she'd called her mother who in turn shows up at the accident scene, also inebriated, and gets hauled off to jail with the daughter. We're counting our blessings that everyone was unhurt. But... seriously?!?!
